The Legends Rising
A Century of Faith, Fortune, and the Rise of Greatness
New York, NY — October 30, 2025
The Nursing Office.Com proudly announces the release of The Legends Rising, a powerful new memoir co-authored by Myrna D. Santos that chronicles the extraordinary life of Irene Moraga Lumbrera, a self-made millionaire, spiritual witness, and “Woman of All Seasons.”
At 96 years old, Irene’s story unfolds as a living testament to faith, resilience, and generational impact. From her rise to wealth at age 26 in post-war Philippines, to her spiritual journey alongside Iglesia Ni Cristo founder Felix Ysagun Manalo, to her return from homelessness through community care, Irene’s life is a symphony of triumph, loss, and divine purpose.
The Legends Rising is more than a memoir; it is a tribute to greatness in all its forms. Featuring stories of men and women whose lives shaped communities and inspired generations, the book invites readers to reflect on legacy, faith, and the power of storytelling. “This book shows how Legends Rise and promises more to come,” writes Santos, whose voice as a nurse, friend, and movement builder weaves through the narrative with poetic grace.

PREFACE
My Journey Writing this Book
I have never been so obsessed with an endeavor as writing this book. Every time I tried to close the final manuscript, ideas kept coming so that it got better over time of envisioning, reckoning, crafting, intelligent creativity and strategic positioning to a movement building inspired by the legends. My greatest challenge in drafting this book is the creativity in formatting a free style that can fit Irene’s memoir nicely. May I be able to find the right words to deliver her story for you, her friends, and the future generations. This book shows how Legends Rise and promises more to come.
As a nurse, advocate, and architect of movements, I have seen how ordinary lives become extraordinary when guided by vision. I have seen fate bind us with limits, and destiny ignite us with possibility. The Legends Rising is my offering: a literary nonfiction work that honors those who came before, while inviting each reader to step into their own rising.
This book was born from my conviction that legends are not distant figures locked in history but are living mirrors, showing us what is possible when courage meets choice. I have seen its worth and value, not only for Irene’s legacy, but my own.
This is not a book of passive admiration. It is a call to emulate, to act, to shape legacy. Each chapter closes with a reflection, a reminder that greatness is not reserved for the few. It belongs to all who dare to rise. May these pages hold you in awe, not only for the legends remembered, but for the legend you are becoming.
We read the book for the first time as a community, to feel and create a perfect book, in the first place, it is about legends, how else can it stand through generations to come?
INTRODUCTION
Your Journey Reading this Book
There are moments in every life when the ordinary world falls away, and something ancient, luminous, and unmistakably true begins to rise. This book is born from such a moment of a quiet stirring, a whisper from the past, a call from the future. It is an invitation to step into a circle where stories are not merely told but awakened.
This book proudly presents a handful of stories of great men and women who have lived lives that made an impact not only in their times but the years and generations ahead. We salute them for who they were and the things they did that influenced the hearts and minds of the people and the community.
The legends gathered here are not distant heroes carved in stone. They are human beings who rose from struggle, faith, culture, and circumstance. They are mothers and warriors, healers and dreamers, elders and children. They are the people who walked before us and the ones who walk beside us still. Their lives remind us that greatness is not an accident but a choice, discipline, and devotion.
This book opens a space where myth and memory meet; where the sacred and the everyday touch; where the reader is not a spectator, but a participant in the rising. You are invited not just to see these legends, but to recognize the legend within yourself.
In these pages, you will meet stories shaped by culture, resilience, and the quiet power of the human spirit. You will meet figures whose journeys illuminate our own, people who remind us that identity is a compass, that legacy is a responsibility, and that rising is both a personal act and a communal one.
This is not a book of nostalgia. It is a book about becoming.
As you enter this circle, I ask you to pause. Breathe. Feel the presence of those who came before you. Feel the strength of those who stand with you. Feel the possibility of those who will follow you. This is the lineage you inherit and the lineage you extend.
Welcome to The Legends Rising.
Enjoy your journey.
Raise to your legend.
SYNOPSIS
The Legends Rising is a ceremonial journey into the lives, spirits, and legacies of individuals whose stories illuminate the path of becoming. This book gathers legends not as distant icons, but as human beings who rose through culture, struggle, identity, and purpose. Their lives form a constellation, each star distinct, yet all part of a greater sky.
The book opens by feeling the author’s journey in drafting the book; then inviting the reader into a sacred circle, a space where myth and memory meet. Here, the legends are called forth not to be admired from afar, but to be understood as guides. Each chapter reveals a life shaped by resilience, cultural wisdom, and the quiet power of rising in one’s own time. These stories are not linear biographies; they are mirrors, showing us the numerous paths and paths a human being can rise.
Across the chapters, the reader encounters themes that bind the legends together: identity as a compass, culture as a source of strength, resilience as a daily practice, and legacy as a responsibility. These themes weave through the book like threads of gold, connecting each story to the next and forming a tapestry of shared human truth.
Woven into this tapestry is the movement that inspired the book, the lifelong work of a community and public health delivery led by the author. Through The Nursing Office.Com, and The Nurse is IN, the book bridges mythic storytelling with real‑world empowerment. The legends become models of care, leadership, and cultural healing, offering wisdom that extends beyond their own lives into the lives of those who read their stories.
As the journey unfolds, the book turns gently toward the reader. It becomes clear that The Legends Rising is not only about the people within its pages. It is about the legend within each of us, the part that seeks meaning, purpose, and connection. The final chapters invite the reader to step into their own rising, to see themselves as part of a lineage that continues forward.
This book is a map, a mirror, and a call. It honors those who rose before us, celebrates those rising now, and prepares the way for those yet to rise. In these pages, the reader is not merely seeing the legends, but they are joining them.
Author’s Note
This book was born from a vision, not of retelling myths, but of reawakening them. The Legends Rising is conceived as a bridge between the timeless struggle of fate and destiny and the living call to legacy in our own time.
Every passage is written as a tribute to the legends who rose before us, and as an invitation to those who will rise after. It is not enough to admire greatness from afar; we are called to emulate it, to shape our own destinies, and to leave behind echoes that will guide others.
Though I have drawn inspiration from the wisdom of ages, the architecture of this book, its rhythm, its voice, its rising and falling cadence like a classical music is a careful creativity infused with intelligence. It is a work of literary nonfiction, but more than that, it is a movement: a call for each reader to step into the story of their life as a legend in the making inspired by the legends, to live like them.
This is my proud offering and my tribute to the legends. May it inspire you to rise, to fall, and to rise again until your own story becomes part of the chorus of time like classical music that never dies.
Dedication
I would like to dedicate The Nursing Office.Com to the memory of my parents, Oscar and Marcelina, from whom I learned about life; my colleagues who made me a professional nurse; my family and friends who gave me all the support to do the things I love, especially my children, Richard, Mary and Robert who have sacrificed and missed me so much; my husband Bobby, who parented my children in my absence; to my patients who have trusted me to care for them and from whom I have learned so much about life in its weakest moments; and foremost, my God who provides me the strength, courage and guidance to this path where any nurse fear to tread on their own for the fears of ridicule, jealousy, conflict and doubt.
To the legends who rose before us,
whose courage lit the path through shadow.
To the legends who rise among us,
whose voices remind us that destiny is chosen.
To the legends yet to come,
who will carry the flame forward,
shaping their own stories into echoes of greatness.
And to every reader who dares to step forward,
may your life become a story remembered.
This book is for you.
About the Authors
Irene M. Lumbrera & Myrna D. Santos
We met for a reason; I always believed that. Irene and I walked together as mentor and student, guardian and companion, sister and soul‑friend. She taught me resilience, humor, faith, wisdom and the quiet dignity of living with grace.
She enjoyed her life to the fullest. I imagined and felt I was there in every place she went, and everything she did. I can still see how her eyes brighten up, as she told me her stories that I loved and revered. I vowed to tell the world what a human being can become and how legends can rise. I took her pictures for the cover, and I called it The Legends Rising.
Irene’s wisdom, courage, and spirit rise through every page of The Legends Rising. Though her hands did not type these words, her life authored them. Her presence shaped the story, the mission, and the heart of this work. She took Book I with her stories, I continued Book II, as a movement, like a chant and a song, the hymn will go on beautifully together, not one, without the other.
In her final moments, I became her angel. As she lay helpless, she raised me to the level of her right hand and allowed me the sacred privilege of sitting beside her as she crossed from this world into peace.
She was the storyteller and I am the writer. I write as the surviving voice, but we stand here as authors together as the woman of all seasons, and the friend who witnessed her legend rise. Together we will take you there, let’s enjoy the ride and raise our legends.
